When shipping vehicles or goods internationally, you typically have two major options: RoRo (Roll-on/Roll-off) or Container Shipping. Both are reliable, but they serve different needs. Here’s the major difference:

RoRo Shipping (Roll-on/Roll-off)

Best for: Cars, SUVs, trucks, heavy equipment, and anything that can drive or roll.

How It Works:

Vehicles are driven directly onto the vessel, secured inside the ship, and then driven off at the destination port.

Benefits:

  • Lower cost — generally cheaper than container shipping.

  • Fast loading/unloading — because the cargo rolls on and off.

  • Good for running vehicles or heavy machinery.

Limitations:

  • You cannot load personal items inside the vehicle (most ports restrict this for security).

  • No added protection besides the ship's internal deck — your vehicle is not inside a sealed container.

  • Only available on routes with RoRo vessels.

Container Shipping

Best for: High-value vehicles, cars with personal items, household goods, pallets, barrels, or mixed cargo.

How It Works:

Your cargo is loaded into a 20ft or 40ft container, sealed, and placed on a vessel.

Benefits:

  • Maximum security — container is locked and sealed.

  • You can load personal items inside the vehicle or ship multiple items together.

  • Great for consolidation (multiple customers sharing a container).

  • Ideal for non-running vehicles because we can load them with equipment.

Limitations:

  • Usually more expensive than RoRo.

  • Longer handling time — loading, securing, and containerizing takes more steps.

Simple Summary for Customers

  • Choose RoRo if you want the cheapest and fastest way to ship a vehicle, with no extra items.

  • Choose Container if you need maximum protection, want to ship personal items, or are sending multiple goods together.
